The Archive Room

Our Museum and Archive Room can be visited on the upper level of the Heritage Centre. Here you will find many things relating to Corstorphine past and present.

The Archive Room and Museum were recently refurbished with the help of a generous bequest from one of our founder members, and former custodian of the Dower House, Mr Kenneth McKenzie. The Museum has been named "The McKenzie Room" in his honour, and the Archive room is named the "Cormack Room" after our founder Chairman.

Our holdings include many images of the old village and adjoining area. These can be found in old photographs, postcards, slides, drawings and paintings. We also have many documents, newspaper cuttings and maps of the area, as well as some souvenirs and artefacts of yesteryear. We have recently acquired the research papers of, the late, Miss A.S.Cowper, Trust Historian, who spent over 20 years researching the history of our village.

Some local collectors and historians have bequested us their collections and additions are always welcome. We also welcome any help and expertise that may advance our Museum and Archive. Over the years the Trust has gathered and preserved many photographs, documents and artefacts that might otherwise have been destroyed, and we wish to continue this.  If you think you have anything of interest please contact us.

Our Museum shows the development of the village form early times. It shows how major influences like the Church and School have developed and grown. We have on display many maps of the village through the years and can show how the infrastructure, like transport, has developed.

It tells us how the landowners, farmers, families, societies, clubs and common people have influenced the village and local area over the centuries.

Although we cannot offer to do any research for you our Archive and Museum are open to researchers during our Saturday and Wednesday coffee morning (or can sometimes be opened at other times by prior arrangements).

We are constantly visited by school groups, local youth organisations, clubs and societies and often organise slide shows, exhibitions and talks.

We have a thriving Local History Group who meet over the winter to hear lectures on many interesting topics both Local and National. For our current season of lectures click HERE.
