This window, little seen, is at the back of the gallery in the tower, is another 1905 Alexander Ballantine & Son, costing approximately £30. It carries the arms of the Knights of St.John of Jerusalem, they were ancient landowners in Corstorphine. It was dedicated to the architect of the church’s 1905 refurbishment, Mr. George Henderson.

George Henderson of Hay, Henderson and Tarbolton had a wide experience in Australia and Scotland. In Edinburgh he worked on old Coates House, Craiglockhart Church and St.Paul’s Episcopal Church. He also worked on the tower of St.Andrew’s, Peebles and the nave of St.Mary’s, Haddington. Abroad he designed and built the Cathedral at Bermuda. Unfortunately he died on the 24th March 1905 and did not live to see his refurbished Parish Church of Corstorphine.

George Henderson

The Henderson Tablet.

The church paid him a well deserved tribute by placing a memorial tablet to him on the wall of the chancel, to the left of the great east window. On the right of the window is the stone to Nicholas Bannatyne the first provost who for forty years guided the young collegiate church. It is apt that these two visionary men spanning the centuries in the history of the church are remembered side by side.
