This window, and the following two on the north wall of the Nave, are scenes from the Life of our Lord, the theme was also suggested by the Very Rev. James MacGregor of St.Cuthbert’s, Edinburgh, and complements the Teachings of our Lord windows of the south nave. These three windows are again by Alexander Ballantine and Son and were installed during the 1905 restoration costing approximately £45 each. This the first window is slightly tucked behind the organ pipes, which makes it a bit hard to photograph, and depicts "The Adoration of the Magi."

Mary is holding the baby Jesus. Note Joseph has no halo. The other panel shows the three wise men delivering their gifts of Gold Frankincense and Myrrh.

The makers mark can be seen in the bottom right hand corner.

The inscription reads "In grateful memory of Alexander Matthew, M.A., F.R.C.S., for 24 years the beloved physician in this parish and a devoted elder of this church, born 7th August 1846 died 17th April 1905. Dedicated by his parishioners and other friends." This window as its inscription says is a tribute to the well-loved village physician Dr. Matthew.

Dr Matthew's
Grave Stone

Dr. Matthew’s gravestone can be found in the churchyard, it is a flat calvart cross and is the first stone on the left under the East window. He died on the 17th August 1905 at the age of 58. He was an elder at the Old Parish between 1898 and 1905. (St.Matthew Chapter 2 v11)
